Media: Wherein, Inertia and Dedication Come to Fruition. And This Is Only the First Step.

Please take a look at Phoenix ABC affiliate news station, CH 15, at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. tonight (AZ time), and take yet one more good look at how out of touch the administrators at The Arizona State Hospital are with the public.

Rat Bastards Be Afraid.

Late yesterday afternoon I received the following news alert from one of several media sources who I have been collaborating with over the last 12 months or so, collaboration largely based upon information sharing specific to the substandard mental-medical practices and care at The Arizona State Hospital. And while I feel no need to claim authorship of a live news report which is to be aired tonight, Friday, August 09, 2013, the fact does remain that seeds I laid at the onset of my advocacy, including during my time as a patient at ASH, have everything to do with what I have been referring to as Phase Two of this process, which began late last year, at that point in time when I settled into production of a manuscript that will detail my experiences at ASH, both as a person affected by serious mental illness, as well as a man unwilling to turn a blind eye to what I identified early on in my time there as criminally oriented misconduct subjected upon ASH patients by ASH staff at all levels of employ. As I've extensively outlined in this blog to date, said misconduct extends into the highest level offices at ASH, including but not limited to the Hospital's administrative staff (e.g. former ASH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Stephen Dingle (2005-2010), ASH Chief Operating Officer Donna Noriega (2003-present, ASH Chief Executive Cory Nelson (2011-2012), Arizona Assistant Attorney General Joel Rudd, and so on), ASH's senior clinical staff (e.g. current ASH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Laxman, Dr. Pervaiz Akhter, Dr. Ruby Rojas-Ramos, Dr. Steven Morris, Dr. Lynn Lydon), as well as management level nursing staff (e.g. Bonnie, Jackie), and other like members of staff who have the most direct responsibility over the care needs of ASH's seriously mentally ill patient community. I have an extensive body of data the includes names and titles of dozens of individuals who have been centrally involved in patient abuse and related heath care misconduct, and before long, this data will also become public. Transparency and accountability come hand in hand with the role of public service in any capacity, and the fact that each and every staff person at ASH is state employee lends itself to the reality that nobody working at ASH deserves to hide, as it were. I warned you, and you know who you are….

Not long before my Feb. 2012 discharge from ASH, Cory Nelson attempted to initiate a relationship with me, in direct response to formal communications I had sent him many months before. I knew by that point that he was a man not to be trusted, for he had already began instituting changes to the operation of ASH which I knew for a fact would only worsen the conditions, with specific respect of the patient experience, as well as in terms of ASH staff in general. I thus told this man, one day on the patient mall when he approached me and asked to speak about my long gone communications: "Too late. You needed to respond in good faith when you had the chance, sir. But you are too late." And as it turns out, I was correct in my position at that time. Cory Nelson is a bald faced liar, and anyone with half a mind can see that. But what iS as if not more significant at this time, is the fact the men such as Joel Rudd have been supporting each and every element of the substandard conditions at ASH for years, now, while Cory Nelson is somewhat of a lamb, who I somewhat suspect is being set up as the "fall guy" in these affairs. Be warned, you people: YOUR TIME IS AT HAND.

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT MY WORK FOR NOW. BELOW IS THE NEWS ALERT (sent to me via email) ISSUED IN THE LAST 48 HOURS BY PHOENIX ABC AFFILIATE NEWS STATION, CH. 15, AS FOLLOWS:

Dear Friends,

As you may know—we’ve been looking into conditions at the Arizona State Hospital for many months.
They call it ASH.
We’ve discovered there are many wonderful people working there who don’t feel safe.
They are hard-working highly trained and dedicated individuals doing difficult jobs.
And many of them told us they can’t do their jobs properly because of how dangerous ASH has become following severe cuts in security.
We’ve talked with hundreds of people; we’ve reviewed thousands of documents and spoken to experts across the country.
Our investigation has uncovered some startling details and we don’t want you to miss it.
This is an urgent request—an attempt to reach out to you to let you know about what we’ve found.

The ABC15 Investigators will present a very special report this Friday at 8 p.m.after the football game on ABC15.

***PLEASE TUNE IN TO ABC15 ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 9TH AFTER THE FOOTBALL GAME!
TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND ENEMIES!
ALERT YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS, YOUR COWORKERS AND YOUR NEIGHBORS TOO.
MAKE SURE THEY ALL TUNE IN AND WATCH THE ABC15 INVESTIGATION OF THE ARIZONA STATE HOSPITAL.

YOU NEED TO SEE WHAT WE FOUND OUT ABOUT ASH—THE ARIZONA STATE HOSPITAL—
OUR STATE’S ONLY PUBLICLY-FUNDED AND PUBLICLY OPERATED MENTAL HOSPITAL.
We have 2 different stories that will air this Friday—one at 8 p.m. and one at 10 p.m.

We began by looking at the number of escapes from the hospital.
We learned that despite the escape of a dangerous patient who murdered an innocent woman, security at the hospital was cut by more than half.
We’ve also learned that hospital staffers are under extreme pressure due to understaffing.
And we’ve learned that nurses, doctors and techs are constantly concerned about their safety due to the security cuts.

This Friday, at 8 p.m. and at 10 p.m., we will present two different stories about the Arizona State Hospital that you need to see!
PLEASE JOIN US FRIDAY, AUGUST 9TH, AT 8 p.m. and AT10 p.m.

Take a look at the first few stories we aired several weeks ago.

In closing:

I, PJ REED, HAVE ALREADY MADE THE FOLLOWING FACTS CLEAR TO THE EXECUTIVE STAFF AT CH 15:
     (1) ANY ISSUES SPECIFIC TO THE RISKS POSED BY CORY NELSON'S ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIONS, INCLUDING IN TERMS SPECIFIC TO CUTS IN SECURITY STAFF, HAVE AS MUCH IF NOT MORE IMPACT ON THE EXPERIENCES OF ASH'S SERIOUSLY MENTALLY ILL AND DISABLED PATIENTS. THE FACT IS, MOST OF THE PATIENTS AT ASH ARE NOT OVERLY VIOLENT, AND IN TERMS OF THE PRESENCE OF VIOLENCE AT ASH, IT IS THE PATIENTS WHO MOST SUFFER THE IMPACTS.
     (2) IN TERMS OF THE JESUS MURIETTA ESCAPE, AND THE HORRIFIC MURDER OF APRIL MOTT, MANY ASH STAFF WERE WELL AWARE OF THE COVER UP AT THE TIME THAT IT OCCURRED (JUNE, 2011), AND SEVERAL OF THEM EXPRESSED THEIR AWARENESS OF HOW UNLAWFUL THE COVER UP ITSELF WAS. THUS, I SPECIFICALLY ASKED A NUMBER OF STAFF TO "DROP A DIME" IN ORDER TO ANONYMOUSLY CALL AZ REPUBLIC REPORTER JJ HENSLEY AND VERIFY THE FACT THAT JESUS MURIETTA HAD INDEED BEEN A PATIENT AT ASH, AND THE RELATED FACT THAT HE DID INDEED  ESCAPE FROM ASH. BUT NONE OF THESE INDIVIDUALS WERE WILLING TO DO THAT, FOR FEAR OF ADMINISTRATIVE RETALIATION THAT WOULD PUT THIER JOB SECURITY AT RISK.
     (3) I PJ REED ATTEST TO THE FACT THAT YES, THERE ARE DEFINITELY GOOD PEOPLE WORKING AT ASH, AND THEY (AND I) KNOW WHO THEY ARE, FOR THE MOST PART. BUT THESE PERSONS  ARE A CLEAR MINORITY AT ASH, AND IT IS THE INSIDIOUS PRESENCE OF A MAJORITY OF ASH STAFF WHO ARE VIRTUALLY SOCIOPATHIC IN THEIR MISCONDUCT THAT CREATES THE SUBSTANDARD CONDITIONS AT THAT I AM WORKING TO EXPOSE. THERE IS A CRITICAL NEED FOR ANY/ALL ASH STAFF WILLING TO SPEAK OPENLY ABOUT THEIR CONCERNS TO REALIZE THAT THE PATIENTS AT ASH NEED THEIR SUPPORT, TOO. SADLY, ASH'S MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IMPOSE AN ATMOSPHERE WHEREIN THERE IS A VAST DISCONNECT BETWEEN STAFF AND PATIENTS, AND MOST ASH STAFF- EVEN THE GOOD ONES-FEEL THAT ASH PATIENTS CANNOT BE TRUSTED IN EFFECT. BUT I KNOW THAT IF THE TIDE IS TURNED IN A REASONABLE MANNER, PATIENTS AND STAFF CAN COME TOGETHER AND CREATE A FAR SAFER AND GENERALLY MORE HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT THERE. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I HAVE EXPERIENCED SUCH CONDITIONS IN OTHER MENTAL HEALTH FACILITIES. IN THIS SENSE, I AM FAR FROM ALONE IN UNDERSTANDING THIS, BUT AT ASH, THE SENIOR CLINICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF KEEP LOWER RAKING EMPLOYEES IN AN ABJECT STATE OF FEAR (FOR THIER JOBS) AND DISTRUST (OF THE PATIENTS). NOTHING COULD BE MORE COUNTER THERAPEUTIC IN A SETTING SUCH AS ASH, AND IT NEEDS TO STOP. PERIOD.
(4)THE FACT IS (AS STATED ABOVE), THE ENDEMIC PRESENCE OF ONGOING PATIENT ABUSE AND RELATED CLINICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE  CRIMINALITY IS OVERTLY CONDONED BY ASH STAFF AT EVERY LEVEL OF EMPLOY, BUT IT IS THE STAFF WITH THE MOST SENIORITY AND RELATED AUTHORITY THERE AT ASH WHO HAVE CREATED THIS CRISIS. THIS INCLUDES SENIOR NURSING AND MEDICAL STAFF, PARTICULARLY THE FOREIGN TRAINED PSYCHIATRISTS (WHO HAIL, VARIOUSLY, FROM PAKISTAN, THE PHILIPPINES, INDIA AND SO ON). HEREIN, IT IS CRITICAL TO UNDERSTAND THE GROSSLY CORRUPT POWER DYNAMICS AT ASH AND THROUGHOUT ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES/ BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES, FOR THIS IS THE CORE REASON UNDERLYING HOW AND WHY THESE CONDITIONS EXIST IN THE FRIST PLACE, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, HOW AND WHY THEY HAVE CONTINUED. THIS, IN SPITE OF MORE THAN ONE FEDERAL INTERVENTION (1995 OR SO), AND MY OWN CONCERTED EFFORTS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THIS FACT IN MY WORK OVER THE PAST 24 MONTHS (INCLUDING WHILE STILL HOSPITALIZED AT ASH).

Kudos to ABC15 for running this story. I got out of that place in Dec 2011.... which ended up being perfect timing, as things spiraled downward from there. I feel bad for those that have to continue to work there, as many good men and women do. Keep up the good work exposing the wrongdoings there. Public agencies need to be held accountable to the public and taxpayers of this state.

    You still doing your jogging?

  2. GREETINGS FORMER SECURITY GUARD PERSON! IT IS GREAT TO HEAR FROM YOU, WHOEVER YOU ARE. I MEAN IT! I SUSPECT THAT YOU AND I WERE FRIENDS THER AT ASH (AS IT WERE), LEST YOU WOULD NOT BE IN TOUCH TODAY. AND YES, I AM- RUNNING, 5-6 DAYS/25-30 MILES A WEEK. IN THE SWAMPS AND WOODS OF LOUISIANA UNTIL LAST MONTH, AND NOW BACK ON MY HOME MOUNTAIN TRAILS (GASP!). THANK YOU FOR ASKING. WHOEVER AND WHEREVER YOU ARE TODAY, I WISH YOU WELL. YOU MET YOUR OBLIGATIONS AT ASH, WHICH IN TERMS OF WHAT THE ADMINISTRATORS EXPECT, AMOUNTS TO GOING BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY. AS SUCH, YOU AND YOUR ILK ARE POSSIBLY THE MOST VALUABLE MEMBERS OF THE ASH COMMUNITY. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO DIRECT YOUR CONCERNS TO OTHERS; DAVID BISCOBING, FOR EXAMPLE, AT PHX ABC CH 15. CONTACT HIM ANONYMOUSLY IF YOU SO CHOOSE. HE IS A GOOD MAN, I TRUST HIM ENTIRELY, AND HE SINCERELY VALUES THE FEEDBACK AND INPUT OF PERSONS WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE BASE. AS SUCH, YOU ARE STILL NEEDED, BY AHS PATIENTS AND STAFF ALIKE. PEACE AND FROGS, FRIEND. SINCERELY, PJ REED.

I would really love input of any kind from anybody with any interest whatsoever in the issues that I am sharing in this blog. I mean it, anybody, for I will be the first one to admit that I may be inaccurately depicting certain aspects of the conditions
at ASH, and anonymous comments are fine. In any case, I am more than willing to value anybody's feelings about my writing, and I assure you that I will not intentionally exploit or otherwise abuse your right to express yourself as you deem fit. This topic is far, far too important for anything less. Thank you, whoever you are. Peace and Frogs.
