RESOURCES IDEAS: If You Want to Help Defend The Rights And Dignities Of Mentally Ill Persons At The Arizona State Hospital, Please Take Action In The Simplest Ways Possible

THE MOST POWERFUL WAY TO GET THE BALL ROLLING AT THIS POINT WILL COME ABOUT THROUGH DIRECT AND SIMPLE FLOWS OF COMMUNICATION WITH THE ONES MOST CENTRALLY INVOLVED WITH OVERSIGHT AND STATE/FEDERAL ADMINISTRATION OF PUBLIC (STATE) FACILITIES SUCH AS ASH.

               MY SUGGESTION:
A strongly worded message declaring your awareness of ongoing verbal, physical, and clinical and administrative abuse of authority at The Arizona State Hospital, as well as your basic demand that a meaningful and objective investigation into these things be conducted as required by state and federal law into the substandard public health facility conditions and unlawful mental health/medical care and practices at The Arizona State Hospital and throughout the Arizona Department of Health Services system. Keep copies of any such communications, and be ready to share them again and again as time passes.

NOTE: WHEN I SET THIS RESOURCES PAGE UP, I LISTED THE VARIOUS AGENCIES AND ADVOCACY ORGANIZATIONS BEGINNING WITH THE OFFICES OF ARIZONA BASED STATE RESOURCES. .

HOWEVER, AT THIS TIME, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND SKIPPING RIGHT PAST THESE STATE BASED RESOURCES AND BEGINNING INSTEAD WITH THE HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS AND FEDERALLY BASED RESOURCES LISTED BELOW (SEE #6-8). I FEEL THAT INDIVIDUALS WORKING IN THE STATE OF ARIZONA'S AGENCIES HAVE FORFEITED THEIR STATUS BY REFUSING TO RESPOND IN A MANNER CONSISTENT WITH THEIR LAWFUL OBLIGATIONS IN THIS CONTEXT. THEY BLEW IT, AND THEY DID SO TO THE DETRIMENT OF ASH'S HIGHLY VULNERABLE PATIENTS, AT THE EXPENSE OF AZ'S TAXPAYERS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, AND FROM HERE ON OUT, I AM THROUGH WITH FOLLOWING THE RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES IN THIS CONTEXT, AND I INVITE ALL OF YOU TO FOLLOW MY LEAD.

The Arizona State Hospital is a public facility, and little different, as such, than the public library. However, because of its status as a provider of public health care that flows down through federal funding, the Arizona State Hospital is subject to the authority of the highest government administrations in our country today. The citizens of Arizona have the express right to demand federal inteventon in cases involving violations of the Americans With Disabiltiies Act and human rights, in general.  PLEASE TAKE ACTION TODAY IN DEFENSE OF THE DIGNITY AND RELATED HUMAN RIGHTS OF MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE IN THE ARIZONA STATE HOSPITAL BY DISSEMINATING YOUR DISAGREEMENT WITH PATIENT ABUSE AT ASH IN THE THESE RATHER SIMPLE WAYS:

1) State your clear awareness of the wrongdoing that I have thus far exposed by WRITING OR CALLING THE FREAKING HOSPITAL ITSELF AND ASKING TO SPEAK WITH THE SUPERVISOR:

            THE ARIZONA STATE HOSPITAL
            ATTN: CORY NELSON, SUPERVISOR
            2500 EAST VAN BUREN ST.
            PHOENIX, AZ, 85007
                                                            (602) 244-1331
OR BETTER YET, VISIT THIS MEATHEAD AT HIS PERSONAL WEBSITE AND POST COMMENTS TO THE EFFECT:

                           www. crazycorycorner.weebly.com

2) Clear and strong expressions of dissent can also be sent to THE DIRECTOR OF THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES WILL HUMBLE:

      Arizona Department of Health Services
      ATTN: Will Humble, Director
      150 North 18th Avenue
      Phoenix, AZ 85007
                                                            Phone: (602)542-1025
                                                            Web: www.azdhs.gov/diro/index.htm

4) The Arizona Department of Health Services/Behavioral Health Services Office of Human Rights is assigned the responsibility on ensuring that the patients at ASH and throughout the state's public mental health system are protected in full accordance with state and federal law specific to their rights as disabled citizens. The last time I was in contact with these people, a very nice and seemingly competent young woman named Dana Flattery was the acting lead advocate. Anybody possibly in need of this office's assistance can contact them as follows:

     ADHS/BHS Office of Human Rights
     150 N. 18th Avenue, Suite 210
     Phoenix, AZ 85007
                                             PHONE: (602) 364-4585
                                             TOLL FREE: 1 (800) 867-5808

5) Anybody seeking to formally file a complaint or report specific to abuses of any ASH patients' rights, or those of any person included in the ADHS/BHS public mental health care system, can do so to the following address:

ADHS Office of Grievances and Appeals
       ATT: Kara Burke, Office Manager
       150 N. 18th Avenue, 2nd Floor
       Phoenix, AZ 85007
                                              PHONE: (602) 364-4558
                                              FAX: (602) 364-421
                                              TOLL FREE: 1 (800) 421-2124

6) Your elected state and federal representatives are also obligated to respond whenever the citizens of Arizona express legitimate concerns of this sort.

7) Several federal agencies also bear the responsibility or responding to good faith reports in regards to any/all criminal conduct specific to human rights and related civil rights.  Express your awarenesses of these problems at ASH, and prompt that demand investigations be conducted by nonstate entities and agencies, as follows:

The United States Department of Justice
                       Civil Rights Division
PO Box 6618, Washington, DC 20035.
                                                                                       (800) 514-0301

The United States Department of Health and Human Services
                        Office For Civil Rights
                        90 Seventh Street, Suite 4-100
                        San Francisco, CA  94103

8) I also know of at least a few powerful advocacy groups that I am still trying to convince to become as fully involved in patient abuse and related defense of mentally ill persons at ASH and in this state. Please share your same basic concerns and dissent over these matters with them, as well, and ask them to get as involved as they possible can:

                      A) The Judge David Balezon Center for Mental Health Law
                          1101 15th street, NW, Suite 1212
                          Washington, DC 20005

                                               PHONE: (202)467-5730

                                                EMAIL:  communications@balezon.org

                        B) The Citizens Commission on Human Rights
                             6616 Sunset Blvd.
                             Los Angeles, CA 90028

                                              TOLL FREE:  (800) 869-2247
                                               WEB: www.cchr.org
                                               EMAIL: humanrights@cchr.org

Please take a few minutes to draft and mail hard copy or electronic expressions of dissent and related demands for investigation to any or all of these resources today. Anything that you can offer will have immediate impact, and as my work to establish meaningful reform in Arizona's behavioral health care system evolves, I will continue to share the results of your contributions to the bast of my ability. Feel free to share the basic lines of communication that you put effort into with me via e-mail, and will do what I can to follow up and make sure these people are paying attention, etc.

I would really love input of any kind from anybody with any interest whatsoever in the issues that I am sharing in this blog. I mean it, anybody, for I will be the first one to admit that I may be inaccurately depicting certain aspects of the conditions
at ASH, and anonymous comments are fine. In any case, I am more than willing to value anybody's feelings about my writing, and I assure you that I will not intentionally exploit or otherwise abuse your right to express yourself as you deem fit. This topic is far, far too important for anything less. Thank you, whoever you are. Peace and Frogs.
